My goal back in 2022 was to design the world’s best handgun rest for hunting. I felt our current Signature Camo offering was already the best, but I wanted to make it even better. It was time to step things up. I don’t know if the Ambush is the best at anything as I tend to let others be the judge of that. My goal was to make it versatile, and super stable to give the handgun hunter the speed needed to get on the game quickly.
The Ambush is special to me because it is the smoothest most durable rest our company has ever produced. The handgun hunter can take any handgun and go anywhere using any style he wishes. I will be going over a few key features that I believe set the Ambush apart.
Fluid Head
Let’s start with the ground up. The Ulanzi U-190 fluid head is an all-aluminum construction with really nice machining. The large, knurled knobs are easy to adjust even with gloves. My favorite upgrade is the detachable handle. The handgun hunter can choose whether to use the handle or not. I prefer it as an added touch point to lay my arm on. Arca Plate
The Arca plate can slide forward or backward to customize the balance point for different guns. I would tend not to move said plate unless I have an extremely long heavy barrel equipped with a suppressor. To be honest, that is something I have never done, but others certainly have. Some forward weight is a good thing and creates resistance, but too much of a good thing is usually not good. If the Ambush owner wants additional adjustment, he can purchase an aftermarket plate up to 120 mm long. They are available on Amazon. Base and Bracket
The all-aluminum construction of the base and bracket creates a very durable piece of gear that will take the rigors that come along with hunting. When we hunt hard our gear must be able to keep up. There’s nothing worse than going on an important hunt and having a piece of equipment fail.
Control Freak Bag
The Control Freak Bag is hand-sewn and filled with poly beads. It was designed to nest the butt of your gun and take some of the vibration out of the shot. The bag is sewn with waterproof canvas and should last for many years. Having said that, I would probably order an extra one if I were going on an expensive out-of-state hunt.
Trigger Guard Guide Wheel
The Trigger Guard Guide Wheel will accommodate just about any gun and was designed to create another support for your handgun. The large spool may help soak up some vibration from the shot making those groups even smaller. I like to shove the front of my trigger guard against the Trigger Guard Guide Wheel and then just relax it so it’s not touching.
