To help us understand the need for a handgun rest to hunt with, we first need to understand the limitations of our body. The rifle was designed to work with the ergonomics our body provides. If you see a standing shooter presenting a rifle or shotgun on a target, you will notice four body points of contact with the weapon. If standing with a handgun, the shooter only gets two points of contact and that’s if he uses both hands. To make matters worse, there is no vertical support, leaving the weight of the gun to completely work against us. The larger the gun, the worse the situation gets. We can use anything in nature to help, such as a tree branch or a fence post, but what if such a thing doesn’t exist when an animal shows up? Even when available, how consistent can we be using different support systems every time we take a shot? I started developing the Trifecta Handgun Rest back in 2010 to allow the handgun hunter to hunt with a fully supported gun that would allow him to be consistent shot after shot. As hunters, our goal should be to enjoy the hunt, and not worry about whether our equipment is going to work at the moment of truth. After fourteen years of building handgun rest, the goal at Trifecta Handgun has somewhat changed. I want the handgun hunter to have a resting system that will adapt to the situation he is presented with. The Ambush Handgun Rest is our go-anywhere-and-do-anything rest. Paired with a monopod, it is at home in a tree stand or hiking up and down the Rockies. Using a tripod the Ambush is at the ready at all times in a ground or box blind. The Hybrid Hunter II is very ergonomically friendly but carries a little more weight. It will perform best when short hikes to a blind or tree stand are the preferred hunting method.
